A new advisory board for the University of Tennessee at Martin, created by the UT FOCUS Act passed by the state legislature in 2018, will hold its first meeting beginning at 1 p.m. CST, Jan. 9, in room 206 of the UT Martin Boling University Center. One member unable to be present will participate by telephone.
Agenda items include:
- Review of UT FOCUS Act legislation and the role of the advisory board
- Adoption of bylaws
- Election of a chair
- Appointment of a student board member
- Election of a secretary
- Discussion of future dates for regular board meetings
- Discussion of the UT Martin strategic plan, student profileand impact study
Each UT campus across the state will be served by an advisory board comprised of five public members, one faculty member and one student member. The following UT Martin Advisory Board members were appointed by Gov. Bill Haslam, confirmed by the General Assembly and announced late last year:

- Kyle Spurgeon, of Jackson, Jackson Chamber of Commerce
- Julia Wells, of Bells, The Pictsweet Company, UT Knoxville ‘61
UT Martin’s faculty representative elected by the Faculty Senate is Dr. Chris Caldwell, professor of mathematics and past president of the UT Martin Faculty Senate. Caldwell will serve a two-year term.

Requests to address the board may be submitted using the online form or pdf at utm.edu/advisoryboard. Requests will be accepted until 5 p.m. CDT, Tuesday, Jan. 8. Persons who have preregistered to speak will be scheduled to speak in a committee meeting or the full board meeting on a first-come, first-served basis. Speakers will be limited to five minutes each, and the total time available for speakers will be 30 minutes.
