Buttrey to speak during fall Phi Kappa Phi recognition ceremony Oct. 8

Dr. Emalee Buttrey, associate professor of animal science at the University of Tennessee at Martin, will be the featured speaker during the fall 2019 Phi Kappa Phi Recognition Ceremony, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., Oct. 8, in the Boling University Center’s Watkins Auditorium.

The annual event honors freshman and sophomore students who excel academically. Buttrey will give a presentation titled “Ruminate and Reflect: Life Lessons from a Cattle Nutritionist,” during which she will share what she has learned along the way since her own UT Martin graduation in 2003.

She holds a master’s degree from Texas A&M University and a doctoral degree from West Texas A&M University in addition to her bachelor’s degree from UT Martin. Prior to returning to teach at her alma mater, Buttrey spent five years as a beef cattle extension and research assistant with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension in Amarillo, Texas, and two years as an assistant professor at Louisiana Tech University. She is currently the faculty advisor for the UT Martin Student Cattlemen’s Association and scholarship advisor for the campus chapter of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
