The University of Tennessee at Martin will soon welcome students with two Tennessee Governor’s Schools to the main campus. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences begins May 27 and runs through June 23. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities begins the following Sunday, June 4, and runs through June 30.
Both programs bring selected high school students from across Tennessee to UT Martin to take college courses and participate in a variety of activities. Interested students must complete an application process and receive an invitation to attend. The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences has 35 participants, and the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities anticipates 50 students to attend.
The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Agricultural Sciences, founded in 2004, introduces students to courses in natural resources management and animal science and provides opportunities for hands-on interactions with working crop and livestock operations.
The Tennessee Governor’s School for the Humanities, founded in 1985, is UT Martin’s original Tennessee Governor’s School program. Participating students may receive college credit in art history, political science or philosophy and choose from additional non-credit courses in English literature, history, music and a selection of four enrichment seminar activities.
